This guide uses the current Georgian Stays inventory. Property selection considers public rating evidence, review volume, destination variety and useful comparison evidence such as a sourced property photo, mapped position or direct website. Listings are not paid placements, and current prices or availability should be checked with the linked property or booking source.
Use Tbilisi, Kakheti, Kutaisi and Borjomi as strong spring bases, then add Kazbegi or higher routes only after checking current conditions. May generally opens more options than March, but the exact year and altitude matter more than a fixed calendar promise.
Choose the base that fits the trip
Build early spring around the lower country
In March and early April, I would start with Tbilisi, Kakheti, Kutaisi and Borjomi rather than make the whole trip depend on high-elevation hiking. These regions can still produce a varied itinerary while giving the mountains time to become a decision you make closer to travel.
Choose stays with easy road access and useful town locations when the weather forecast is unsettled. A countryside property can still be lovely, but I want to know how dinner and onward transport work if a rainy day changes the plan.
Treat Kazbegi as a current-conditions decision
The Georgian Military Highway can be part of a spring trip, but I would check road and weather information before committing the entire route. Two nights are still preferable when the mountain chapter matters, because one cloudy day should not erase the reason you traveled there.
I would also distinguish Stepantsminda from higher or more remote hiking plans. Reaching the main base does not automatically mean every trail or side route is in the same condition.

Use late spring for a wider but still flexible route
By later spring, a Tbilisi–Kazbegi–Kakheti circuit becomes easier to build, and western Georgia can fit naturally if you have enough days. I would still avoid stacking several mountain-dependent nights without flexible terms.
Spring is also a good season for itineraries where food, cities and landscapes matter more than swimming or peak-alpine hiking. If those are your priorities, the route can feel rich without needing every summer activity to be available.

What I would check before booking
- Plan by altitude as well as by month.
- Keep mountain nights flexible when spring conditions are changing quickly.
- Use lower-altitude bases to prevent one weather event from breaking the itinerary.

Georgia in spring: FAQs
Is April a good time to visit Georgia?
It can be very good for cities and lower-altitude regions, while high mountain access remains variable. Build the trip so the mountains are checked rather than assumed.
Can I hike in Svaneti in spring?
Do not assume summer-style Svaneti hiking conditions in spring. Check the exact trail, elevation and current local conditions before planning around it.
