September is well suited to mixed city, mountain and wine-country travel; October can be excellent for Tbilisi and Kakheti while requiring more attention to highland weather; November calls for a more conservative route with lower-altitude anchors and shorter daylight in mind.
Choose the base that fits the trip
Use September when you want both mountains and wine country
Early autumn lets you build a route that still reaches highland regions while giving Kakheti a strong place in the itinerary. I would decide whether Svaneti or Kazbegi is the main mountain chapter and avoid using both as rushed photo stops.
Accommodation demand can still be strong, so anchor stays may deserve earlier booking. The practical advantage is that you can combine very different regions without relying on midsummer heat or a winter road plan.
Let Kakheti become a bigger part of an October trip
Kakheti is especially compelling when food, wine and harvest-season atmosphere matter. Telavi works well for a wider touring base; Sighnaghi is a compact stay with a different rhythm. Arrange the tasting-day transport before choosing a remote property.
Kazbegi can still fit an October route, but I would check the forecast and road situation close to travel. The later the month, the less I want several high-altitude commitments chained together without alternatives.
Make November deliberately slower
By November I would design the trip around Tbilisi, Kakheti, Kutaisi or Borjomi and treat high-mountain excursions as opportunistic rather than foundational. Shorter daylight changes what a transfer day can realistically contain.
This can be a strength rather than a compromise. Fewer bases, long meals and city or spa-country stays can produce a very good trip when you stop measuring it against a summer hiking itinerary.
