Ask what you would regret missing most: mountain scenery, wine-country evenings, hiking in Svaneti, or time by the Black Sea. That answer should decide the extra region, because the accommodation map only becomes useful after the route has a purpose.
I would then choose two- or three-night bases wherever possible. One-night stays can be useful on a point-to-point road trip, but using them as the default makes Georgia feel like a sequence of check-ins instead of a place you are actually visiting.
Use Tbilisi and Kazbegi as the easiest planning spine
Tbilisi absorbs arrival uncertainty, gives the widest stay choice and connects naturally to several regions. Kazbegi adds a dramatic mountain chapter without requiring the same logistical commitment as Svaneti. Together they create a strong first-trip spine for many itineraries.
The exact stays still matter. In Tbilisi, compare slopes and evening walks. In Stepantsminda, compare the map position with how you plan to reach trailheads, viewpoints or the next transfer. A beautiful room is only useful if the base supports the day around it.
Make the third region earn its travel time
Kakheti earns its place when wine, food and a slower countryside rhythm are priorities. Kutaisi earns it when western day trips or the airport fit the route. Batumi earns it when the coast and city atmosphere are part of the holiday. Svaneti earns it when highland scenery is important enough to justify the longer connection.
I would avoid adding a region just because it appears on every list of Georgia highlights. The best first itinerary is the one that still feels clear when you imagine the luggage movements, departure mornings and weather contingencies, not the one with the most famous names.
