Choose Kazbegi or Svaneti when the mountains are the point of the trip
Kazbegi is the mountain choice I would make when I want dramatic scenery without building the whole itinerary around a long highland detour. Stepantsminda has the broadest local accommodation choice, which makes it easier to compare guesthouses and hotels by map position, review evidence and arrival logistics.
Svaneti is a bigger commitment and, for me, deserves more breathing room. Mestia is the practical base; Adishi, Mazeri and villages around Ushguli are more route-specific. If the mountain section is the heart of the trip, that extra planning can be completely worth it. If it is only a quick add-on, Kazbegi is usually the simpler fit.
Pick Kakheti when you want wine country to feel like a stay, not a day trip
I like Kakheti most as an overnight chapter in the itinerary rather than a rushed excursion. Telavi works well when you want a practical base for several places, while Sighnaghi is more compact and atmospheric. Tsinandali, Kvareli and Kachreti can make sense when the property setting itself is part of the plan.

Nearby Bakuriani is a separate mountain base, not simply another Borjomi neighborhood. If you are deciding between Borjomi and Bakuriani, let the next day's plan choose for you. Choose Batumi or a smaller Black Sea town according to the kind of coast you want

My rule is simple: if I expect to keep going into Batumi every day, I would stay closer to Batumi; if the beach town itself is the plan, I would let the smaller base be the destination.
Let Kutaisi connect the western half of the trip
Kutaisi is one of those bases I appreciate because it can be both a destination and a practical hinge between other regions. I would stay centrally when I want evening walks and restaurants nearby, and look farther out only when parking, road access or a specific Imereti route matters more.
For a first Georgia itinerary, Kutaisi can also keep the route from becoming too ambitious. It gives you a western-city stop before the Black Sea or the mountains, and its accommodation mix includes plenty of smaller guesthouses as well as conventional hotels.
