Property selection considers public rating evidence, review volume, destination variety and useful comparison evidence such as a sourced property photo, mapped position or direct website. Plan at least three nights for Svaneti, preferably four or five if you want Ushguli, day hikes or weather margin. Use Mestia as the main base, then add a village overnight only when it supports a specific route rather than simply increasing the number of stops.
Choose the base that fits the trip
Three nights gives the region a minimum viable shape
With three nights, I would stay in Mestia and choose one major day plan rather than trying to collect every famous village. This keeps arrival and departure from consuming the whole Svaneti chapter and leaves at least one full day that can respond to weather.
The exact property position matters because early departures and evening meals are simpler from a useful base. A scenic stay outside town can work well with transport, but central convenience has real value on a short visit.
Four or five nights lets Ushguli and hiking fit without forcing the pace
This is the range I prefer for a first mountain-focused Svaneti trip. You can keep Mestia as the anchor, allocate one day or overnight to Ushguli and still have room for a hike or weather adjustment.
Before making an Ushguli night non-refundable, confirm current road access and the return plan. The village is more than a map pin; how you reach it and leave it determines whether the stay feels immersive or stressful.
Longer stays make sense for trekkers, not simply because Svaneti is far away
Six or more nights can support multi-day routes, village-to-village hiking and slower highland travel. At that point, accommodation becomes part of the trail logistics, so luggage, meal availability and communication with each stay matter more than broad hotel-style comparisons.
I would not add extra nights only to compensate for the long journey. Add them because you have specific hikes, villages or rest days that make Svaneti the central chapter of the trip.

What I would check before booking
- Use three nights as the minimum for a first Svaneti chapter.
- Give Ushguli its own transport and weather plan.
- For trekking routes, plan luggage and village stays together rather than separately.

How many days in Svaneti?: FAQs
Are 3 days enough for Svaneti?
Three nights can work for Mestia plus one major outing, but four or five nights is more comfortable if Ushguli or substantial hiking matters.
Should I stay overnight in Ushguli?
It can be worthwhile when the road and your onward route support it. I would not add the overnight without confirming transport and current access first.
