Borjomi has more to offer than a brief mineral-water park stop on a Vardzia bus tour. Its surrounding protected forests have marked trails and horseback routes, with a separate visitor registration system. A full-day trip from Tbilisi to ride for several hours is therefore a very different product from a sightseeing excursion through the town.
The central question is whether you are comfortable handling a horse independently on outdoor terrain for much of a day. This isn't a riding lesson, and it is not the easiest alternative to a gentle walk in Borjomi Central Park. Consider a park-and-town day or an overnight if your group needs a more accessible and flexible option.

| What's included | Tbilisi transfers, a local horseman, helmets and the advertised horse route. | Arrange any guide, park permission, rental, transport and equipment separately. |

| Park entry | Ask the operator how protected-area registration and access are handled. | Register at the Borjomi or Kharagauli visitor centre before entering designated park trails. |

Borjomi National Park is not simply the town's central park
The Agency of Protected Areas of Georgia administers Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park and publishes marked hiking and horseback routes through forests and mountain terrain. Its visitor rules explicitly require registration at the park visitor centre, including for horseback trails. Those rules are separate from a walk through Borjomi town's mineral-water and garden area, and a supplier's booking page does not override them.
The park has different routes with different distances and difficulty. Some are serious multi-day itineraries; not every marked trail fits into a visitor's spare afternoon. If you are interested in park landscapes but not a demanding riding day, choose a suitable shorter route in discussion with staff and arrange transport, footwear and weather protection accordingly.
What the current riding supplier advertises
The GetYourGuide experience operated by Horse Riding Tours begins with Tbilisi pickup and a road transfer toward Likani/Borjomi, followed by an approximately four-to-five-hour nature-based ride led by a local horseman. The supplier says the transport, helmets and ride are part of the package. Food and drink are excluded. Including the road legs, this is a full-day commitment rather than a four-hour door-to-door excursion.
The supplier is unusually clear that guests ride their own horses for much of the route. Basic instructions are given at the start, but a guide does not stay beside every rider at every moment. This is not a training lesson for someone unwilling or unable to control a horse. The marketing description calls the horses experienced, but that does not make falling or an unexpected animal reaction impossible.
Rider and animal suitability comes before the mountain view
Ask about the actual pace, route grade, saddle fit, protective equipment, riding experience requirements, rider weight or health restrictions and how the guide responds if someone wants to stop. Four or five hours of riding can be physically demanding for a newcomer, even at a walk. Riders may experience fatigue or soreness in knees and back. The guide's ability to slow the group cannot be assumed without prior agreement.
Responsible horse tourism also involves animal welfare: appropriately conditioned horses, rest breaks, access to water, tack fit and conditions that are not forcing animals over unsafe ground. A well-reviewed tour is useful evidence about past guests, not a certification of animal welfare or personal safety on your selected day. Discuss concerns with the provider, and decline if its answers are unclear.
Independent Borjomi has a different rhythm
If you stay overnight in Borjomi, you can visit its town park separately and reserve time for the national park with less pressure from the return drive. Check protected-area guidance and ask the visitor centre about the actual walking trail or licensed horseback service suitable for your party. An afternoon of town sightseeing and an hour of easy walking are not equivalent to the supplier's lengthy guided forest ride.
An independent park visit still needs registered access, a route suited to daylight and conditions, and transport to the correct trailhead. Do not wander onto a multi-day horse trail without food, maps, shelter plans and the park's approval. A comfortable mountain itinerary is about knowing your limits and turning back when conditions demand, not achieving every photo opportunity.
Check the safety details and full-day schedule
Before paying for the guided ride, confirm the exact Tbilisi pickup address and window, driving duration, trail/permit arrangements, riding equipment, guide language, route and rider exclusions. Ask about cancellation if rain or conditions make the forest unsafe for riding. The tour page is not a guarantee that every trail is open, that views will be clear or that a rider who becomes nervous can immediately be transported out.
Choose the horseback tour when active outdoor riding is the main purpose and each participant understands the animal and terrain. Choose an independent Borjomi overnight or a shorter locally checked park walk when flexibility, gentler movement or extra time matters more. Both can be worthwhile, but they serve different travelers.
Questions before you go
Is the guided horseback ride suitable for complete beginners?
The supplier calls it a nature ride rather than a lesson and expects confidence around horses. Ask directly about your actual experience and whether a shorter lesson is preferable.
Does the four-to-five-hour duration include the drives from Tbilisi?
No. That is the advertised time on horseback; the Tbilisi road transfers make this a much longer overall day.
Do I need to register for national-park routes?
The official Agency of Protected Areas requires visitor-centre registration before entering Borjomi-Kharagauli park trails, including horseback routes.
Is food included?
The researched supplier lists food and drinks as not included, so carry suitable provisions.
Will we gallop?
The listing says terrain limits galloping. Treat ride pace as guide- and conditions-dependent, not an activity promise.
Is horseback riding the same as visiting Borjomi town?
No. The riding experience is a long active forest excursion; town park and mineral-water attractions can be arranged independently.
